Activities at Nieshoutkloof Kirkwood
Nestled against the Rietberg Mountain, about 3 km out of Kirkwood town, Nieshoutkloof is surrounded by peace, tranquil surroundings, amazing scenery, game, orchards, mountains and heaps of space! Here you can relax whilst admiring Nature’s Beauty.
Take in the scenery from under the Acacias in this unique countryside surrounded by Eastern Cape Valley Bush veldt! The call of the Fish Eagle may be heard; the Guinea Fowl scurry around the countryside and birds of prey soar on the thermals! The area boasts a variety of birdlife, game, plants and insects. There are also a variety of aloes, succulents, ferns, cycads and fungi growing on Nieshoutkloof to interest any botanist.
Make Nieshoutkloof your base and explore the Sundays River Valley and surrounding areas at your leisure. With the Addo Elephant National Park on your doorstep, Kabouga just over the mountain and Lake Mentz (Darlington Dam) not too far away, there are numerous activity options to keep you busy.
On Site Activities
Those of you who love hiking… Nieshoutkloof has quite a few options to explore and routes to take – depending on what you feel like doing. You can combine your walk with a swim and cool down at the cement dam or if you are fit, hike to the top of Rietberg. From there you will have an amazing bird’s eye view of the valley. We have a landmark on the farm – which we call the china-man…well worth searching for! There is also a creepy cave that you can hike to and explore.
Picnic at the “Fairy Bush” in a secluded valley of the Rietberg. It is an amazing picnic spot where you will feel cut off from the rest of the world. During the rainy season the waterfall is a must-see.
